It is over

We have lost but only those who aren’t students of football history will remember todays events in that limited way.

We may not have won the cup but we showed what we are made of – to the point where it took a stroke of bad luck on our part to gift Manchester United victory.

Before this match, I was a fan of Chelsea. Now I am writing this as someone in love with an institution. I now truly ‘feel’ for the team in a way that I didn’t before.

I’ve always attempted to live simply and have simple goals now I’m afraid I’m going to have to adjust that outlook a bit to accomodate more complex ones; like my eventual pilgrimmage to Stamford Bridge.

How could I not? When I looked on my screen and saw Terry then Ballack crying I really felt it inside. I had been waiting for this for 4 years now and just like that, it was not to be.

This is no longer football. We are no longer just a club. By making it to this final and acquitting ourselves the way we did, we have kicked in the door and taken up the respect others have begrudged us of, for the past 4 years now. As the guys on Vital Chelsea put it, “we are a big club now.”

For whatever reason, I feel no remorse. Only excitement for what the future must hold. I see only blue skies and as long as blue is the colour then football is the game.

I can’t wait for next season.

Chelsea Caribbean is here

without comments

I’ve been playing a helluva lot of fantasy football over the past few years. Way too much. Add to that the fact that I work in a dept of football crazy co-workers (well you have to be crazy to support ‘Pool IMO) and you will begin to see the makings of how/why I became a football enthusiast.

Despite not having a set structure or direction with my regular blog, I somehow just don’t think rantings about football would add much value to my uh… ordered chaos there. So in order to support my new interest, I’ve started this separate blog.

Chelsea Caribbean will be dedicated to tracking the exploits of the club I’ve grown to appreciate the most (Bolton big up u self same way!). The perspective will be distinctly Caribbean though.

I won’t be the only author on there and can’t speak for the others’ intentions but on my part, there wont be too many game (p)reviews per se. You can get those a dime a dozen elsewhere. I think I’m gonna focus on the impact of the club on the fans – the chelsea culture, if you will; acquisitions; business moves (forging into asia, EPL game abroad etc) and how all this ties in with the clubs overall growth and development.

I look forward to seeing and hearing from chelsea fans, neutrals and opposition supporters alike.

Blue is the colour, football is the game.
